I recently bought a used Kia Sorento and I'm not sure when the transmission fluid was last checked. How can I properly check the transmission fluid level and condition?
ReplyFirstly, locate the transmission fluid dipstick, which is usually labeled and can be found near the back of the engine. Make sure the car is on a level surface and the transmission is in park. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Then, reinsert it fully and pull it out again. Check the level against the markings on the dipstick - it should fall within the designated range. If the fluid level is low, you can add more using a funnel. Make sure to use the correct type of transmission fluid as recommended by the manufacturer.
In addition to checking the fluid level, also pay attention to the color and smell of the transmission fluid. If it is dark or has a burnt smell, it may be an indication of a potential problem. You may want to consider getting the fluid changed or having a mechanic take a look for any potential issues.
