Hi Samantha, you are absolutely right to be concerned about maintaining your brakes. Neglecting proper brake maintenance can lead to costly repairs and potential safety hazards. To properly maintain your brakes, you should first check the brake fluid level and top it off if needed. Next, visually inspect the brake pads for any signs of wear and tear. If they are less than 1/8 inch thick, it's time to replace them. You should also have your brake rotors inspected and resurfaced if necessary. Lastly, make sure to change your brake fluid every 2 years or 25,000 miles to keep your brakes performing at their best.

Hey Samantha, I have been servicing Kia vehicles for years and have seen many cases where brake issues could have been easily avoided with proper maintenance. In addition to regular checks and fluid changes, it's important to also avoid harsh braking whenever possible. This can significantly reduce the lifespan of your brake pads and rotors. I highly recommend investing in quality brake pads and rotors that can withstand regular use. Remember, proper brake maintenance not only keeps your car running smoothly but also keeps you and others on the road safe.

Samantha, I have owned several Kia Rio's and have found that the brakes can easily last over 100,000 miles with proper maintenance. One tip I have is to avoid riding the brakes when driving, such as coasting down hills or using the brakes excessively in stop-and-go traffic. This can cause the brakes to overheat and wear out faster. Also, make sure to have your brakes checked at every oil change and don't hesitate to replace them if needed. Remember, your brakes are your first line of defense on the road, so it's important to keep them in top shape.
