How does the adaptive cruise control work in the Kia Stonic?

I just bought a Kia Stonic and I'm not sure how the adaptive cruise control works. Can someone explain it to me in detail?

The adaptive cruise control uses radar and camera technology to monitor the distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you. It will automatically adjust your speed to maintain a safe following distance.

Make sure to always keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel while using adaptive cruise control. It is not meant to replace attentive driving.
