What does the AWD Lock button do?

I noticed a button labeled AWD Lock on my Kia Sorento. What does it do and when should I use it?

The AWD Lock button locks the all-wheel drive system, which means power will be evenly distributed to all four wheels for better traction on difficult terrains or in slippery conditions. This is useful for off-roading or driving in snow or mud.

Using the AWD Lock on dry roads or during normal driving can actually cause your vehicle to handle worse and waste more gas. Only use it when you really need it.

I personally don't use the AWD Lock button too often, but I have found it useful when driving in heavy rain or through flooded areas. It helps me feel more in control and eliminates the risk of hydroplaning.
