What does the torque converter do in a Kia Sorento?

I recently bought a Kia Sorento and I noticed that it has a torque converter. I have heard this term before but I am not sure what its function is. Can someone please explain?

Hi Emily, a torque converter is a type of fluid coupling that helps transfer power from the engine to the transmission. It allows your car to idle while in gear, which is useful for traffic and stop-and-go driving. Additionally, it allows for smooth shifting and less strain on the transmission. I hope this helps!

Hey Emily, think of the torque converter as a middleman between the engine and transmission. It uses transmission fluid to transfer power and allows for smooth acceleration and shifting. Without it, your car would have a much rougher ride. Hope this clears things up.

Hi Emily, congratulations on your new car! A torque converter is a vital component in your Sorento's automatic transmission. It helps control the amount of power going to the wheels and prevents the engine from stalling at low speeds. If you notice any issues with your car's acceleration or shifting, it's worth having the torque converter checked. Best of luck!
