What should I do if the engine overheats in my Kia Stonic?

When driving my Kia Stonic, the temperature gauge suddenly goes into the red zone and the engine starts to smell like it's overheating. What should I do in this situation?

The first thing to do is safely pull over to the side of the road and turn off the engine. Let it cool down for a few minutes before opening the hood.

Check the radiator for any leaks or cracks. If you see any, do not attempt to drive the car. Get it towed to a mechanic as soon as possible.

If there are no visible leaks, check the coolant level. If it's low, you may have a leak or a faulty radiator cap. Fill it up with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water, and keep an eye on the gauge while driving.

If the coolant level is fine, it could be a faulty thermostat or water pump. In this case, it's best to call a tow truck and have it taken to a mechanic.
