Why is my Kia Rio making a strange noise?

I recently purchased a used Kia Rio and have noticed a strange noise coming from the engine whenever I turn the steering wheel. It almost sounds like a whining or grinding noise. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

It's possible that the power steering pump is failing or low on fluid. First, check the power steering fluid level and add some if necessary. If that doesn't fix the issue, it's best to take it to a mechanic for further inspection. But be sure to mention the strange noise and when it occurs to help them diagnose the problem more accurately.

Another possible cause could be a problem with the wheel bearings. If the noise gets louder as you accelerate, it's likely the bearings need to be replaced. This is not a simple fix and requires special tools, so it's best to take your Kia Rio to a mechanic to get it fixed. Don't wait too long or it could lead to more damage and costly repairs.

If you notice the noise only happens when the car is cold, it could be a belt tensioner issue. As the car warms up, the noise will usually go away. This is a relatively easy fix and you can likely do it yourself by following online tutorials. Just make sure to have a new belt tensioner on hand and follow the proper safety precautions.
