Why are the brakes on my Kia Rio making a grinding noise?

I have a Kia Rio and recently noticed that the brakes are making a grinding noise whenever I apply them. I'm not sure what could be causing this. Can someone give me some advice on what I should do?

Hi Alexandra, the grinding noise from your brakes could be due to worn brake pads or a problem with your brake calipers. It's important to get this checked out as soon as possible as it could be a safety hazard. I recommend taking your Kia Rio to a trusted mechanic for a thorough inspection.

Hi Alexandra, another possible cause for the grinding noise could be rust build-up on your brake rotors. This can happen if you haven't driven your Kia Rio for a while or if you live in a humid climate. You can try braking hard a few times to see if that helps remove the rust, but if the noise persists, I suggest taking your car to a mechanic for further diagnosis.

Hi Alexandra, one piece of advice I can give is to avoid riding your brakes. This can cause excessive wear on your brake pads and lead to the grinding noise you're hearing. Instead, try to use engine braking and only apply the brakes when necessary. And of course, always remember to get regular maintenance done on your Kia Rio to keep your brakes in top condition.
